 A new gallery has been added displaying my submissions for jury for Dragon*Con 2009. You can view the gallery here. Last year my submissions were centered on art from my book "Emblems from the Runes of Magness". This year I focused on my new mannerist works and the Recursion series. The Recursion series consists of pieces of Mise en Abyme or Droste effect images. These images repeat and spiral in a manner similar to M.C. Escher's Print Gallery illustration. The main difference in the layout is that Escher went one layer deep whereas my pictures average 3 to 5 layers deep. Escher made a remarkable achievement; he practically invented the mathematics require to work out a spiraling Droste image. I have the advantage of a computer to help with the math, but I'm standing on the shoulders of a giant. At any rate I'm very excited about this new series and equally excited about the 2009 Dragon*Con Art Show. |

 I've passed jury and for the second year in a row will be headed to Dragon*Con. The Dragon*Con Art Show 2009 will be much bigger than in previous years, with an expected attendance of 35,000 visitors. The competition was a little tougher this year. Submissions for judging had to be works created within the last 2 years and could not have been previously submitted for judging nor exhibited at Dragon*Con. Out of my existing inventory that left me with very little to show. So beginning in January I set out to do 7 or more works for submission. I wound up with 9 good-sized pieces and was able to choose my 7 from among them. This year I will also be displaying art in the Dragon*Con Print Shop. Additionally I will have twice the amount of gallery space as last year, at a whopping 32 square feet. A lot of this will be filled with some bigger paintings in sizes such as 30"x30" and 20"x30". Right now my inventory accounts for about half of the available space. I'll be creating the rest of the exhibit works between now and July 15 when control sheets are due. |
