I've added the Green Dragon's Den to the Special Links menu. Site owner Dan Grove has amassed an impressive collection of art over the last several years and he does a great job of presenting it to the public. A couple of my earliest online auction pieces are on the Den, so it occupies that space for me that a resturaunt owner might reserve on the wall for his first dollar. I can't emphasize enough what a great resource it is because I think it is wholly unique. I don't know of another place where an individual shares such a large private collection online. That's a treat for visitors and also a great kindness to the artists; many of whom are self-representing. The Den has some very useful links to resources concerning artist's rights. Thanks to that I've learned a thing or two about art business from the site as well. On my old site I'd done a write-up on the Green Dragon's Den. Here's an excerpt: "The Green Dragon's Den is a premier site for fantasy art and is a showcase for one of the largest collections of its type on the Internet. In addition to ATC and ACEO art cards, there are lots of great pieces of full sized original drawings and paintings. Many of the names are instantly recognizable. Scot Eaton, Hildebrandt, Hoffman, Al Rio and Sportelli. Recently one of my fairy drawings - The Moonskull Faery - was added to the collection, along with a nice commentary. Green Dragon's Den features categories of Comic Book, Fantasy, Fairy, Pinup and Gothic art, along with wallpaper downloads and a themed store. It's well worth the visit for fantasy art fans." It can be a real uphill climb to make it as a self-representing artist. Generous patrons like the Green Dragon's Den who share and promote the art are indispensible in that effort. |
